Ladies, should you be lifting weights?

A common concern ladies have when coming to the SHED is when we introduce them to lifting weights and strength training.

The reaction we usually get is “I don’t want to get big and bulky, I just want to lose some weight, TONE UP and lose my wobbly bits. Should I just stick to my cardio?”

Firstly lets clear up the term “TONE UP”

What does it mean?

The term toning up comes from an increase in muscle while having a low enough body fat percentage to see the muscles shape and definition. The low body fat percentage takes care of the “wobbly bits” giving that toned look that people refer to.

Secondly how can lifting weights benefit you?

  • Your body burns fat during and after weight training.
  • The more lean muscle mass you have the more calories you burn per day.
  • Changes your body shape (helps with curves)
  • Increases heart health.
  • Increased energy.
  • Reduces risk of injury.
  • Maintains bone density.
  • Reduces stress.
  • Increases strength and confidence

Now that you know the benefits of lifting weights for strength training, is your main concern actually the one element that you are missing from your training and the main reason you have not seen the results you want?…

Trust us you WON’T get big and bulky.
